It's Race week.
And this one delivered! Kimi Antonelli is back and took the win at Spa, Charles Leclerc crossed P2, and Max Verstappen landed the podium finish we've all been begging Red Bull for all season ... kind of - us Max fans are still begging Red Bull to get with their program as we still want to see him do some battling as he deserves. I can go off on a whole other rant about that haha!
But that's the energy I brought poolside last Saturday afternoon for a perfectly curated editorial boudoir session - Tate McRae playing in the background, sun hitting concrete in between storm showers, and a client who came ready to be seen exactly as audacious as she actually is.
What an Editorial boudoir Session actually looks like
This wasn't a studio session. This was location-based, editorial-direction boudoir photography... the kind that blurs the line between a magazine spread and a real, lived-in afternoon. We talked F1 drivers between poses. We talked about identity, about reclaiming space, about the version of ourselves that shows up when no one's watching versus the version we let the camera see.
That's the difference between a boudoir photographer who's just pointing a camera at you, and one who's building a story with you. I'm the latter. Every session I shoot whether it's in Nashville, Panama City Beach, or Tampa - is built around the idea. This is proof of who you are, not a costume you're putting on for an hour.
The Details that made this session
- Location: Nashville Poolside, chic editorial direction
- Soundtrack: Tate McRae, obviously
- Scent: Sol de Janeiro body spray because a session should smell as good as it looks
- Skin: Vacation Glow sunscreen for that poolside Sheed the camera loves
- Conversation: F1 driver loyalty (never team loyalty - that's a personality trait, not a preference)
- The Moment: A pose we've nicknamed the "Skull Crusher," now living in BTS content across social media and some bloopers - be sure to stay to the end for that
Between setups, it was Sol de Janeiro spritzed on and Vacation Glow sunscreen catching the light because part of the editorial look is how a session feels, not just how it photographs.
If you caught the behind-the-scenes video, you already know the energy. If you didn't - stay tuned because this session was so fun, so fire, and there's a lot more coming from it.
Why this session stuck with me
There's a moment in almost every session where the "performance" of it drops away - no more thinking about angles or lighting or what the client thinks she's supposed to look like and she just is.
She said, "it's not often you meet girls and just hit it off right away."
We had an amazing time chatting F1 with Tate McRae playing in the background.
She said, "she was so comfortable and confident" the entire time.
That's actually the point of an editorial boudoir session. Not the poolside backdrop, not the playlist, not even the images themselves - it's the person that shows ups when she stops holding her breath. Everything else is just the container that makes room for it.
